The 58ha Marshland of River Palmones is a protected natural area and it is one of the last remaining marshalands in Andalucia. Increasing industrial and housing development are big enemies so the conservation of the area - with its rich variety of birdlife and important ecosystems - is a must, and we all need to protect this marshland as an important wildlife site situated in a built-up industrial area. More than 170 species of birds have been seen and recorded here. During migration there are many herons, waders, raptors and even flamingos. Waders like Kentish plovers can be also seen. In winter you can spot ducks, gulls, ospreys, terns and comorants.
